ABOUT GORDON COUNTY
Gordon County is rich in natural and historic resources. From its beginnings in 1850 to today, Gordon County offers its current and new residents many opportunities for work and play. Gordon County is strategically located on I-75 in northwest Georgia, 45 minutes from both Atlanta and Chattanooga, TN. This enviable location has attracted and continues to attract commercial and industrial enterprises such as major carpet and floor covering manufacturers, food processors, heavy machinery assembly companies, and distribution firms. Gordon County and the surrounding area offer a vast array of quality-of-life resources including civil war historic sites, state parks, quality health care, excellent public and higher educational opportunities, a cultural arts center, a regional outlet mall, and the nearby fast pace urban life of Georgia's capital city of Atlanta.
Calhoun is the most prominent city in Gordon County, and offers a safe and friendly small town atmosphere with award winning educational and athletic programs. History is an important part of our community, as can be experienced at the Roland Hayes Museum located at the Harris Arts Center and the Gordon County Historical Society, which contains items from the Civil War and one of the largest private doll collections in Georgia. A National Main Street City, Calhoun also hosts many activities for its residents and visitors alike – from a free Summer Concert Series in the BB & T City Park and street festivals in the Spring and Fall to Fourth of July Fireworks and a Christmas Parade.
